CDS Manufacturing designed and built this automatic inspection machine. The system automatically inspects powdered metal parts for overall length, inner diameter, counterbore diameter, and counterbore depth.
The operator loads parts into the bulk hopper. The bulk hopper supplies parts to the vibratory bowl feeder. The number of parts in the bowl feeder is automatically maintained. Properly oriented parts are fed to nests on an indexing dial. Probes equipped with linear vector displacement transducers (LVDT’s) perform length inspection, inner diameter inspection, counterbore diameter inspection, and counterbore depth operations at various stations on the indexing dial. Good and reject parts are gated accordingly and exit the system via their respective output chutes.

|Process Overview||Powdered metal parts are automatically fed via the linear vibratory feeder to nest loading station. Parts are cycled through various stations on the indexing dial plate for length inspection, inner diameter inspection, and counterbore inspection. Parts that fail any of the inspections are diverted to the rejects output chute. Good parts exit the system to the customers container.|
